At the founding general assembly held on Thursday, 27 March 2025, the interest organization Cruise Faroe Islands was formally established.
In recent years, several new businesses and ports have entered the cruise tourism industry and have jointly participated in international conferences. This collaboration has now led to the initiative to bring all stakeholders together within one organization.
The purpose of the association is to develop and share knowledge about cruise tourism in the Faroe Islands. The association also aims to unite all those with an interest or activity within this industry, and to promote shared interests and cooperation. This is intended to ensure that cruise tourism continues to play an important role in the Faroese economy.
One of the main objectives of Cruise Faroe Islands is to work towards ensuring that tourism is sustainable—financially, environmentally, and socially. The association will also seek to ensure that its members have a unified voice in national tourism policy.
The association places strong emphasis on cooperation with other interest organizations, public authorities, and the Faroese business community, with the aim of creating stable and sustainable growth within cruise tourism. There are also plans to collect and share statistics that can benefit both ports and the commercial and business sectors.
The board elected at the founding general assembly consists of representatives from various parts of the industry—two representatives from ports and one representative respectively from visitor information offices, tour operators, and agents. The board is constituted as follows:
- Magni Vatnhamar Mouritsen, Mouritsen’s Bussar – Chair
- Marjun Andreasardóttir, Klaksvík Port – Vice Chair
- Joan Torleivsdóttir, Tor Shipping – Treasurer
- Magnus Pauli West, Tourist Information Office in Vágur – Secretary
- Hanus Mikkelsen, Tórshavn Port – Board Member
Through this, Cruise Faroe Islands aims to promote a progressive and well-organized cruise tourism sector that benefits visitors while strengthening the Faroese economy.
The association invites ports, visitor and information offices, agents, and tour operators to become members and thereby take part in the development of cruise tourism in the Faroe Islands. This can be done by contacting any member of the board.
